I took this picture whilst stuck in a traffic jam on the motorway on Friday evening. I think it accurately represents the feeling of many drivers stuck in congestion for more than an hour – bored, but not particularly annoyed or angry. Just accepting his fate. It’s a very familiar feeling. I like the way that the tired pose of the man is in complete contrast to the vibrant colours from his dashboard and the brake lights from the other cars. This picture hints at the surrounding chaos without actually making it immediately apparent, the shaky photography making it seem a snapshot, rather than a meticulously ‘set up’ photograph (which it obviously wasn’t). I also like how the blurred forms and odd colouring of the photo make it almost abstract, particularly because the idea of this does not quite fit with the practical mundanity of the situation.
