ImageJust found this article on the Daily Mail and aside from being insanely creepy, it made me think about the ways in which we represent ourselves through different mediums. From the way we pose in photographs to the way act in public; from statues of emperors in Ancient Rome to bizarre cake-alikes in contemporary society. Why would we just take a photograph when you can have a 3D life size cake of your favorite person? It also made me think about what happens when you destroy and eat the cake. Is this like losing a photo album or tearing up a photograph? Or does sentimental value lie in the heart of the matter. Photo albums are vaults of memories whereas a cake-alike is to be enjoyed in the present and only the present. It is gone within 48 hours (and that’s if I’m being disciplined with myself).
